Mixed-use developments are becoming all the rage in Cape Town. Why limit what a building can be? So, too is the newly-opened Station House in Sea Point a smorgasbord of everything that says “modern living”.
Station House by Home Suite Hotels offers luxury apartments for long-term rentals as well as hotel rooms, and all amenities are available to everyone. Tenants and guests can enjoy a gym and biokinetics, a yoga studio and a pet park for guests with dogs. There is a state-of-the-art business centre fitted with meeting pods as well as a stunning rooftop cocktail bar and pool so that guests can work just as hard as they play without ever having to step outside the building.
Rooms are comfortable and cosy, tastefully furnished and luxurious without being pretentious. My favourite part was not the big-screen television with Netflix, the balcony or the coffee machine (though they were worthy competitors). It was the cloud-like bed that engulfs you in a sea of pillows and linen. It was definitely made with “starfish” sleepers like me in mind, and those who appreciate (no, need) a restful sleep as much as I do.
The in-house restaurant, Sonny and Irene by The Kove Collection all but bowled me over with breakfast. I want to shout it from the rooftops: they listen to your egg order! This may seem insignificant to some but let me tell you, it’s been a good while since I’ve had my eggs at a restaurant made exactly the way I like them.
It goes like this. Waitrons politely ask me how I’d like my eggs. I say medium. Without exception, it comes back soft and runny. Sometimes, I get hard-boiled eggs which at least shows some determination on the part of the cook. But at Sonny and Irene, my Eggs Benedict was scrumptious, tasty and perfectly medium. Hooray!
If you’re in need of some fresh sea air after getting your fill at the restaurant or bakery, simply step outside and wander down the road to explore the vibrant Sea Point Promenade. Then, come back and get to work in a comfortable and professional setting, or ditch the 9-5 for a cocktail by the pool.
