Menrad Holms is the proud winner of the third round of the nature photo competition with an image of the night sky. At only 16, Menrad has a keen passion for observing nature through his lens.
‘This image is definitely one of the photos that I worked the most for,’ he says. ‘I took it after a full day of activities at De Hoop, hiking Potberg to see the vultures, hiking the dunes to see a whale and watching the day came to an end. Beautiful clear skies with a magnificent sunset from the sundown boat cruise.
‘After the cruise, I was expecting a perfectly clear sky and a bright Milky Way but unfortunately this was not the case. I got the worst conditions possible, strong wind, cold, foggy and cloudy. This was our last night at De Hoop. I have been trying to capture the Milky Way every night but it was always cloudy. I waited nearly two hours for a 45-second window showing the Milky Way in its full beauty.’
A Grand Prize winner will be chosen between the three winning images. The Grand Prize is two nights for 2 pax in a luxury suite including dinner, bed and breakfast and a guided activity per day.
