Shangana is situated in the heart of the Blyde River Canyon and the southern Kruger National Park, only 5 kilometres from the small town of Hazyview (on the R535 Graskop Road). A collection of traditional Shangaan villages called Shangana is tucked away in a reserve of forest and grassland, protected by African chestnut trees.
Although this tribe has been in this area since the first half of the eighteenth century, they have direct family ties to Shaka, King of the Zulus. The people who live here have made a place that is both a source of great pride for their people and an opportunity for visitors to learn more about their culture—basically, this is where the families of this tribe have always called home.
5. Motseng Cultural Village, North West
Located in the Sun City Resort, Motseng Cultural Village is a vibrant showcase of the country’s eight major indigenous groups.
