However, it is also home to some lesser-known gems which bear a richness in history, culture and nature.

Bakone Malapa Open-Air Museum

The Bakone Malapa Museum is an archeological site dating all the way back to the 17th century. This open-air site preserves the way of life of the Northern Sotho people, giving visitors the chance to explore various aspects of culture and tradition. These include hut building, wood carving, pottery and thatching.

Tshatshingo Potholes
Limpopo’s Tshatshingo Potholes are truly a sight to behold. Formed by swirling water from the Mutale River, the flow runs into a series of natural water features, one of which is 30 meters deep. The attraction offers a very calming and refreshing experience. A well signposted gravel road leads to a viewing site overlooking the marvellous potholes.
Like many other attractions in the Limpopo province, there are a number of stories linked to the potholes which have been passed down from one generation to the next. Hearing about these legends from the locals enriches the overall experience of this peaceful and scenic place.

Mapungubwe National Park

Established in 1995, the Mapungubwe National Park covers an area of over 28,000 hectares. This World Heritage Site is still unknown to some travellers and is worth exploring when in the Limpopo province.
It is filled with plenty of flora and fauna. You can enjoy the charming sight of scenic landscapes, sandstone formations and baobab trees. There are also guided walks, picturesque sojourns and cultural ventures to embark on.

Debengeni Falls
Debengeni is a lush spot where one can relax and take in the breathtaking beauty of nature. It is surrounded by the dense forests of Magoebaskloof.
There is an abundance of bird life, as well as more than 40 species of indigenous trees surrounding the Falls. If you are a lover of nature, this is undoubtedly a hidden gem to consider. What’s more, you also bring your picnic basket and enjoy your favourite eats and treats at this beautiful attraction.
As you enjoy the gorgeous surrounds and the refreshing waterfall waters, keep in mind that there are no lifeguards on site. It is thus advised to be cautious at all times, especially as the rocks at the bottom of the falls are slippery.
