Unsure how to tackle these critters naturally? Take a look at a few tricks and tips to get some peaceful sleep during the hot nights.

Essential oils

With natural ingredients on your body, you’ll find it much easier to combat mosquitoes and deter them from you. The key to placing essential oils on your body is to focus on a few target areas that these bitey bugs tend to go for.

This includes your ankles, feet, and hands. Peppermint oil is a great choice as it has menthol that not only has a natural cooling effect on your skin but repels bugs from your body. You might think you’ll need to lather your body with essential oils, but you can merely focus on the exposed areas while you’re sleeping.

You can also opt to purchase candles that have these essential oils within their contents to keep these mosquitoes from disturbing your slumber. Here are other essential oils that could help with warding them off:

  • Eucalyptus oil
  • Thyme
  • Citronella oil

Drink garlic capsules

Mosquitoes do not enjoy the smell of garlic, so taking garlic capsules could potentially ward off these tiny bugs. As you sweat, this smell could be released from your pores and keep mosquitoes at bay. There are a number of other natural medications you can take to produce sweat that could keep these bugs away.

Plant mosquito-repelling greenery

If you’re not keen on putting anything on your body to ward mosquitoes away, you can always opt to plant plants that naturally deter these bugs. It’s best to plant this greenery around your porch or outdoor entertainment area so you’ll be able to escape the clutches of these winged insects. These plants include:

  • Basil
  • Sage
  • Catnip
  • Rosemary

Get rid of stagnant water in the area

From overflowing flower pots to buckets, mosquitoes are attracted to these still waters. Be sure to empty any stagnant water to ensure that there is a breeding ground for mosquitoes to thrive.
