When you finally get to pack your bags and head to your bucket list destination, the idea of abandoning your fitness goals can be quite tempting. However, being away from your local gym does not have to result in you putting your healthy lifestyle on pause.
You can still have fun on your holiday without compromising your fitness goals. Here are some ways to maintain your fitness while on holiday:
Go for a power walk (or run)
When preparing for your holiday, be sure to pack a pair of running shoes. Going for a power walk or run is a great way to help you stay fit. Plus, you will get to know your destination a little better.
Make use of facilities
If your hotel has a gym or other workout facilities, make use of them. You can also do exercises such as squats, lunges and planks inside your hotel room. If there is a park nearby which has outdoor workout facilities, make it a point to use it to your advantage as well. Although you may not fully and precisely stick to your normal workout routine, the goal is to get your body moving and to burn some calories.
Stay hydrated
Drinking water is essential for your overall health and fitness. As such, ensure that you stay hydrated at all times. When you are out exploring your chosen destination and all it has to offer, carry a bottle of water with you.
Do not overindulge
When on holiday, it is okay to take it easy and spoil yourself. However, too much of any good thing is bad. Avoid eating too much unhealthy food, having too many sugary drinks and an excessive amount of alcohol. It is okay to let loose and indulge, but do so with a healthy amount of balance.
Don’t forget to rest
Exploring a new destination can be very exciting, and you can easily find yourself placing rest on the back burner. Yet, it is essential to try and get enough rest so that you can feel healthy each day. When you are well-rested, you are also more aware and alert. Additionally, you will have more energy for your workouts and itinerary activities.
