This city cat, affectionately known as Kooks, accidentally embarked on a journey from Cape Town to St Francis Bay, 700km away from her home.
Celeste Perry – the Burmese kitty’s owner – took to Facebook on 15 March to ask for help, three days after Kooks had disappeared.
Kooks has a Samsung Bluetooth tracker that works with other Samsung Galaxy phones. Celeste had been tracking her since her disappearance, and asked for the public’s help in the social media post: ‘If you have a Samsung Galaxy please ensure you have Bluetooth switched on and the phone unlocked while walking around the village / St. Francis in general.’
Then, five ladies who had travelled to St Francis Bay from Rondebosch, Cape Town discovered the post and reached out to Celeste to extend their help, according to IOL. When Celeste explained all the places where Kooks appeared to stop moving as she tracked her, the group was shocked to hear that it coincided with all the stops they made on their trip.
As it turned out, Kooks had hidden in a nook in the undercarriage of their Land Rover and stayed there fall the way, miraculously unharmed. However, once the community started looking for Kooks in St Francis Bay, she was nowhere to be found.
Celeste decided to book a flight to Gqeberha and drove to the Bay from there. Flashlight in hand, Celeste set off to find Kooks. She spotted a pair of glowing eyes in the dark, and as soon as she called her name, the cat came running to her.
Kooks is now safely back in the Mother City, resting after her eventful vacation.
