When winter comes around, harvest has come to an end in the Cape’s Winelands and the vineyards begin to look a bit bare as they shed their leaves. But, this is the perfect time to taste those full-bodied red wines to ensure they will buffer us against the cold on rainy days. So, here’s a list of the Cape’s winter wine festivals where you can do just that.
Christmas in Winter, Tulbagh
As South Africans, we cannot really relate to Christmas movies and sleigh-ride songs depicting snowy Decembers. But, the idea of a winter Christmas celebration coupled with a wine festival sounds like a recipe for success.
The town of Tulbagh gets adorned in Christmas decorations and glittering lights and of course, Christmas trees, for a weekend in June. Restaurants serving traditional Christmas dinners and a ‘Rock with Santa Party’ held at the town theatre are some of the events on offer to get you jolly this Christmas in Winter.
