Posted on 22 April 2024 By Louise Bell

While camping is a fun activity to get in touch with nature, this doesn’t necessarily mean you have to give up the luxury of your city mouse ways. Setting up your tent in nature might seem like a rough way to live, but there are methods and things to bring to turn your rustic haven into a comfortable (and portable) palace.

Unsure what you’ll need to survive the camping journey ahead? Take a look at a few things to add to your temporary stay to make it feel like a home away from home.

Choose your campsite wisely

While it might seem to simply book a random camping spot in the destination you desire to stay in, it’s necessary to do some research before you make your decision. Here are a few points to look for before choosing your outdoor accommodation location:

  • Drinking water stations.
  • Working bathrooms.
  • Wi-fi options or at least a strong signal in the area.
  • Plug-point stations to charge your gadgets.

Bring good bedding

One way to make your camping experience feel like a luxurious stay is to ensure you bring comfy and cosy sheets to sleep in. While a sleeping bag is a great option for true toughing it junkies, a duvet and quilt can make your nature sleepover feel like home.

With this said, you’ll also need a layer of comfort if you’re planning to wake up without an achy back and lack of sleep from the inevitable twisting and turning from it. So, be sure to bring an inflatable mattress or yoga mat to create a snug layer to slumber upon.

Research one-pot and recipes you can cook over a campfire

While simple baked beans and campfire roasted meat is a great staple for a camping trip, you can add a bit of spice to the menu through researching easy-to-make recipes.

From skillet brownies to a basic camping dressing you can make beforehand, you can feast like a campfire king if you plan your meals ahead of time. Also, be sure to bring some nifty kitchen gadgets to make campsite cooking a breeze.

Bring lighting

No one likes to sit in the dark while it’s still too early to sleep, so you’ll need to pack a few portable lighting options to illuminate your space. By including a pair of battery operated twinkly light strings, you’ll be able to transform your campsite into a seemingly magical area.

Take the necessary tech

From power banks to tablets for the kiddies to enjoy, technology can be a great comforting source if you’re missing modern civilisation. Be sure your camping grounds have places to charge your gadgets and gizmos, as battery drained tech could cause a riot amongst your technology-crazed clan.
