SA is home to 10th highest total of the world’s tallest waterfalls

New research has revealed South Africa is home to the 10th-highest total of the world’s tallest waterfalls.

The study, conducted by the team at Slingo, looked at the number of natural adventure spots such as volcanoes, coral reef areas and waterfalls to determine an ‘adventure score’ and determine the best countries to visit for an adventure holiday.

*Only waterfalls longer than 152 metres were recorded. In total, 1 020 of the longest waterfalls in the world were analysed. 

The research also revealed the following:

  • The USA has the most volcanoes in the world, with 162 across all 50 states. The country is home to over 10% of the world’s potentially active volcanoes.
  • Indonesia is home to 17.95% of the Earth’s coral reefs, followed closely by Australia with 17.22% of the world’s coral reefs.
  • Australia is home to the most national parks in the world, totalling 685.
