Its was an exhausting week. Rushing to Cape Town to fetch all the gear from sponsors and saying goodbyes to friends and family. I could not have chosen a worse week to do it all!
The heatwave in the Cape was at its peak, the smoke from the fires around Paarl had sneaked its way into the fairest Cape, leaving it a smoggy mess. Bravely I laughed off the heat and told myself to toughen up because where you going it is only going to be hotter! With all the gear loaded and the admin work all over, I said my goodbyes and on the road again.
I stopped and stayed the night in Mossel Bay with my grandfather. He showed me who gets you to your goal. You have your goal and ambition, you feel anxious and nervous and you are… you, you, you!
It took one gesture from a man with a cane to wake me up. All it took was a hug and the words, “We support you.”
Its not just the adventurer that is the hero, its his support. The voice of a loved one over the phone. The encouraging sms messages from your friends. The facebook wall post from your concerned mother!
That gets the man up the mountain.
Both Marc and I would like to thank all our friends and family. We know that they are going to be the main pillar of strength during the tougher times of the tour.
We invite all of you to join us on Sunday the 15th of March when we start our adventure from NSRI Station 21 to Kilimanjaro and back.
Anxiously waiting to ride! Jonathan
