While out on a safari drive at Nkorho Bush Lodge in the Sabi Sand Private Game Reserve, field guide Deon Kelbrick and his guest witnessed a hunt gone wrong.
The Nkuhuma lion pride attempted to hunt a herd of buffalo, but things did not exactly go according to plan. The buffalo isolated one of the older male lions and trampled him in a coordinated attack that lasted about 15 minutes.
‘This was a very emotional sight to witness for me and my guests yesterday [Wednesday] morning,’ said Kelbrick in an Instagram post on 17 November 2022.
The old lion tried to get away but the buffalo were relentless. ‘As sad as it is, we should always remember this is the wild and that nature can be [very] cruel sometimes and it will always be a battle for survival,’ Kelbrick added.
