Elephant calf takes a mud bath – then gets stuck

Elephant calves are known to be a tad clumsy, and oftentimes need some help from the herd. This ellie had a glorious mud bath, but then couldn’t seem to make its way back out of the dam.

Howard Sackstein got it all on film in Kruger National Park and shared it with Latest Sightings. Take a look.

Did you know?

– Elephant calves can stand as soon as 20 minutes after being born and can walk within one hour. After two days, they can keep up with the herd, according to the WWF.

– Elephants have around 150,000 muscle units in their trunk, and the trunk is believed to be the most sensitive organ found in any mammal.

– Elephants need up to 150kg of food per day,
