In north-eastern KwaZulu-Natal, a lone hippo reportedly attacked a safari vehicle on a game drive. No one was injured from the mighty chomp of the hippo in question, and the amazing sight was captured by Latest Sightings.
Katherine Gilson, Steve, and Richard Teichmann were on an outing with an experienced guide, Sandiso, when they encountered a hippo in the middle of the road.
They have just encountered a cheetah and her cups previously and could not believe their luck when they spotted the hippo. He seemed unfazed by the vehicle approaching and stood its ground when the motor stopped to access the situation at hand.
Little did they know that the hippo was looking for a fight. The guide quickly realised this as the hippo kept approaching the vehicle and steadily reversed the motor to try and avoid a confrontation.
The bull then charged the vehicle and ran straight to the motor to attack. He even went as far as biting the front of the hood. When the vehicle reversed out of reach from the bull, he stood on the road in stunned silence at the impressive driving skills of the guide.
The guide, luckily, kept his cool and expertly avoided damage to the vehicle and to the hippo. The aggression from the bull is theorised to be from the heat, as hippos generally eat at night when temperatures are on the lower side.
