The pangolin, the world’s most trafficked animal, was recently honoured on World Pangolin Day, and Care released a video of a rescued pangolin for Wild Rhino Sanctuary. The organization plans to release the pangolin into the wild for rewilding and monitoring purposes at a secret location.

In an Instagram post, Care for Wild stated they were raising the young pangolin, rescued from illegal trading, in collaboration with Johannesburg Wildlife Veterinary Hospital and the African Pangolin Working Group. The organization aims to ensure that the pangolin reaches its optimal release weight before being relocated to its new habitat.

All eight pangolin species are threatened with extinction due to illegal hunting and poaching. Pangolin scales are highly sought after in traditional medicine, and their meat is considered a delicacy in some cultures. As a result, pangolins are being hunted to the brink of extinction.

Care for Wild regards the pangolin as a unique and fascinating animal with exceptional scales, a long tongue, and remarkable digging skills.
