An ordinary scene turned gruesome in mere seconds as a wild dog pack was greeted by an unwelcome guest during their feast. Ellen Clark witnessed the moment with her family in the Kruger National Park where an unlucky wild dog was caught off guard while eating.

During the wild dog’s meal, they were unaware that a lioness had been stalking and taking advantage of the tall grass to make a nasty entrance. Latest Sightings showed the moment when the lioness took her shot and lunged at one of the wild dogs and had a victim in her clutches.
The lioness pinned the wild dog down while the rest of the pack could merely yip and encircle their lost comrade in distress. While the event could have ended here, the footage indicated that the dog (and hope) was still alive as he played dead. He went limp while the lioness had him locked in her jaw but dropped her prize as she grew confident of its defeat.
As the lioness grew unaware of the wild dog’s tactic, he quickly leapt away from the lioness’s clutches when she was distracted. The wild dog was smart enough to quickly place himself in the middle of the pack to protect himself from further injury. The pack promptly sprang in defence to defend and preserve their injured party. The wild dogs began to antagonise the lioness in retaliation and continued to try and nip and lunge at the outnumbered creatures.
The lioness soon left the scene in utter defeat, giving the attacked dog and pack to lick their wounds and be thankful for this victory over a powerful predator.
