Among the species at risk is the Nguru spiny pygmy chameleon, a minuscule reptile from Tanzania’s forests. Despite its ability to blend seamlessly into its environment, habitat loss and illegal trade are pushing it closer to extinction. Conservation efforts focus on curbing poaching and preserving its fragile habitat.

The Antillean manatee, a gentle aquatic mammal found in Honduras’ rivers and estuaries, faces threats from pollution, deforestation, and human encroachment. Local partnerships are working to restore its habitat and develop a recovery plan.

In Vietnam, the critically endangered grey-shanked douc langur continues to face habitat loss and hunting. Efforts to secure protection for its forest home have uncovered new populations, offering a glimmer of hope.

Other species on the list include the African Wild Dog, European mink, and whale shark, each grappling with unique challenges.
