A Boran bull named Cyclone was sold for R8 million on 3 August 2024 at the Hurwitz Farming 10th Production Auction in Mpumalanga. Collen Tafireyi, a long-standing buyer at Hurwitz Farming, bought this expensive bull.

The buyer bought fertilisation specimens from the bull Cyclone’s father (named Picasso) the previous year, making Cyclone’s acquisition that more special. As Picasso was killed by lighting in 2022, Cyclone is one of the remaining lineages of this legendary bull.

Collen Tafireyi has offered a significant R8 million for Cyclone to show his dedication to his craft. He states: It is not about the price. It is about getting what I want and building the stud of my dreams.”

Boran cattle are generally considered to be an excellent choice for stud farming as well as commercial use. The previous highest amount paid for a bull record was by President Cyril Ramaphosa for R3.5 million in 2023.
