According to SANParks, on Monday 12 November an aggressive elephant attacked and overturned a tourist car between Berg-en-Dal and Skukuza Restcamps. The driver of the vehicle sustained knee injuries while trying to escape and was treated on the scene by a KNP doctor. Managing Executive of the KNP, Mr Abe Sibiya said no lives were lost and that the tourists received the best possible treatment available.
Vasti Fourie, a photographer with Kruger-based website Latest Sightings was on the scene when the incident took place. She managed to take these photos while waiting for the elephant to move off before rushing to aid the two passengers ( a male driver and his wife in the passenger seat) in the overturned car.
Lerato Mathole, acting Communications Officer for Kruger National Park suspect the charge may have been sparked by a previous injury and that incidents like this are extremely rare. Park rangers are currently busy trying to locate the elephant to check on the animal’s well being.
