A few months ago on the Savute Channel we had a family in camp who had a GoPro camera with them. While out on game drives and boat cruises they filmed the action from just about every angle imaginable. Every evening we would huddle around their Macbook Pro watching the incredible footage they had captured through the day. The shots varied from high angles of the vehicle and everyone in it, to low angles of the wheel as the Land Rover moved over the Savuti Bridge. I was impressed with the high quality and versatility of the camera, as well as the impressive video clips they managed to put together.
I have always wanted a GoPro camera but after seeing it in action I was sold. While out on leave I snuck into my local camera store and added it to my camera bag for my last month in Botswana. I arrived back in camp having thought up some ideas on how I want to use the camera to capture life on safari from a whole new angle. So keep an eye on this blog for more interesting clips.
The elephants are a major highlight in the Linyanti Concession. If you have read some of my blogs you will notice that the elephant interactions feature in just about every one. So when I returned to camp, the elephants were an obvious focus for the GoPro.
Elephant behaviour has always fascinated me so when I watched the footage I was intrigued by the behaviour of the one elephant. When you watch the video you can clearly see that one of the females is aware of the camera, or at least aware of something out of the ordinary. At one stage it looks like she is trying to cover the camera from the rest of the herd.
